Herbaceous plants: non-woody plants, with a shorter life span than trees and shrubs, used to complement parks and gardens. Most of the species offered have a very short, hardly visible stem, narrow, ribbon-like leaves, and spectacular flowers in some cases. Some (Liriope muscari, Ophiopogon japonicus) are used as a substitute for lawn in dark, dry areas, and they do not need cutting. Gramineae are a characteristic group of herbaceous plants. They are very strong and have feather-duster-like flowers that require little maintenance. For that reason they are becoming more and more popular.
